Training and Experience:
Pete Holloway has been working in NHS specialist mental health services for more than 25 years. For the last ten years he has been a Consultant Psychological Practitioner in a specialist community psychotherapy team in Kent, after having worked in a variety of hospital, day treatment and community settings with families, couples and individuals in both adult services and child & adolescent services. Since 1994 he has also been a Senior Lecturer in post-graduate psychology and therapy programmes at Roehampton University.
Pete originally trained as a Dramatherapist (following a career in community theatre projects with dispossessed communities). As a result of his increasing interest in the impact of mental health problems, relationship issues and traumatic experiences on individuals, couples and families he has undertaken further extensive training in Forensic Psychotherapy, Systemic (Family) Psychotherapy, and ‘3rd Generation’ Cognitive Behavioural Therapies.
Style of Working:
Pete’s aim is to integrate his knowledge and experience into a way of working that respects and utilises the beliefs and values of the individuals, couples or families he sees to promote an acknowledgement of past events, realistic optimism for the future and a commitment to making positive changes in the present. Each therapeutic journey is therefore an open, respectful negotiation between Pete and the client(s) involved.
Pete has maintained his professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council, rather than through other ‘voluntary’ regulators, as he strongly believes that the ethics and conduct of therapists should be regulated by legal statute through acts of parliament. He is therefore legally and ethically bound to the Health and Care Professions Council “Standards of Conduct, Performance & Ethics”.
